August Recap

Sometimes I wonder why I blog, and often want to stop altogether when I don't keep up with it like I want.  Then I remember, this time with our children being so young is passing so quickly and I need to record it!  So even if I'm playing catch up, I'm going to keep going so we can look back and be reminded. So here is catch up from August!

Matt took a week of vacation in August and we commenced our 2nd annual Staycation.  This will definitely be a yearly tradition!  We so enjoy the comfort of home and the fun of experiencing different things in our own city that we don't get to do very often.  One of our most fun outings was to the Children's Museum in Greenville:

August always brings many college students back to the area from Furman, North Greenville, and Greenville Tech.  We are so excited to welcome them back and to kick off the fall with food and fellowship.  It is such a blessing to watch God build His church through Renewal, and to see lives changed as people begin to pattern their lives after Jesus' and trust Him for their salvation.

We also started back to school in August.  We have officially decided that we will homeschool Corrie for Kindergarten and will follow a "child by child/year by year" philosophy of homeschooling after that.  Meaning, if we feel one child will benefit more from homeschooling, we will do that.  If another child the same year would benefit more from public schooling, we will do that.  I NEVER thought I would homeschool my children, but after observing many families who homeschool and seeing the benefits to their children and their family as a whole, we are going for it. 

Although I was a teacher, this is totally new territory to me to teach Preschool/Kindergarten and to teach outside of a classroom setting. Corrie loves "doing school" and pleads with me to read a book and make a craft almost everyday. :)  I believe that especially during the preschool years, learning is constantly happening but we do some more formal teaching and skill practice for about an hour, 3 days a week.  Our main goal this year is to teach character traits, basic math skills, and how to read.  Corrie lights up when she talks about the sounds she's learning and the words she's able to read!  I'm looking forward to this journey with her, Avery, and Hudson.

 First Bible study time - we read in Psalms about how God's Word is sweeter than honey, so I put some honey on a spoon and let her taste its sweetness and we talked about how precious and sweet God's word is.  Praying that these truths sink deep into her soul and that God's Spirit works in her to love Him and His Word more than her life.
